In 1955 when Nepal had just opened it's doors to the West, a Swiss volunteer came to Nepal to set up a dairy. Kyanjin Gompa was a yak pasture
and the perfect spot to start one. However, after realizing how difficult it would be to safely transport milk to Kathmandu, the Swiss volunteer
shifted his attention to Yak cheese production. That set up Nepal's first Yak cheese factory which one can still visit at Kyanjin Gompa, although the production is
seasonal. However, Yak is the male of the species and Dri is the female. And because Nepal has yak cheese and not dri cheese, the joke continues
about what yak cheese is really made from.
Langtang Trek - Trekking in Nepal
16 days in Nepal
Langtang Valley is situated north of Kathmandu and just south of the Tibetan border. The local population of Tamangs are more closely related to Tibetans than to the Tamangs in other parts of Nepal. The valley is home to Langtang National Park. Established in 1971, the lush forests located in the lower elevation of the park is packed with birds, butterflies, langur monkeys, and a spectacular rhododendron bloom during the spring. In the higher reaches, the valley is flanked by Langtang Lirung (7246m) to the north, Gang Chenpo (6388m and Kangri (5845m) to the south, and Dorje Lakpa (6966m) to the east. This trek also combines a visit to the spiritual lakes of the Gosaikunda basin. Gosaikunda Lake (4380m) which according to legend was created by Shiva, is the largest and the most important of more than a dozen high altitude lakes in this basin.
GRADE C (Moderate to Strenous): Langtang trek is 10 days of moderate to strenous trekking at medium elevation (max 4773m). 11 nights at teahouse lodges and 4 nights at city hotels. This trek is for the more serious adventurer. The more fit you are, the more you will enjoy this trek.
Altitude Sickness (Acute Mountain Sickness)

Even though Discover Nepal treks are carefully planned to allow altitude acclimatization, it is impossible to determine who may be affected by it.
