The word Sherpa is not a title and does not mean mountaineer, guide or
porter. Sherpa is the name of the ethnic group who inhabit the southern
flanks of the Himalayan range in north-east Nepal. Sherpas are of Tibetan
origin who migrated from the Kham province in Tibet about 200 years ago.
The Sherpa language is a dialect of Tibetan; and their religion is Buddhism.
Due to their natural acclimatization to high altitude, they are amongst the
best trekkers and mountaineers in Nepal
Everest Base Camp- Trekking in Nepal
20 days in Nepal
Everest Base Camp is a classic and demanding trek. The trek begins after a short flight from Kathmandu to Tenzing-Hillary Airport at Lukla and follows the classic expedition route of the '50s all the way to the foot of the tallest mountain in the world, Mt. Everest. Hike to the rocky outcrop of Kala Pattar for awesome views of Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, Pumori, and the snowcapped panorama of other Himalayan giants. Then hike to Base Camp to see the Khumbu Icefall and huge towers of green and white ice pinnacles. The other highlights of this trek are visiting delightful Sherpa villages, less frequented side valley of Thame and meeting the friendly people. Also visiting the active monastery of Thyangboche to experience the spirituality of Tibetan Buddhism so prevalent in this high country.
GRADE D (Strenuous):
Everest Base Camp is 15 days strenuous trekking on rocky terrain at high elevation (max. 5,545m) - 15 nights camping - 4 nights five star deluxe hotel. Everest Base Camp Trek requires that you are in good physical condition and have previous trekking experience. The more fit you are, the more you will enjoy this trek
Altitude Sickness (Acute Mountain Sickness)
There is a real threat of altitude sickness on the Everest Base Camp trek. Even though Discover Nepal treks are carefully planned to allow altitude acclimatization, it is impossible to determine who may be affected by it.
